Tourist health care
There are hospitals and clinics in all major cities, and ambulance and pharmacies in all towns.
EU citizens travelling to or temporarily visiting Croatia, having been covered by the statutory health insurance in one of the EU member countries, are entitled to immediate health insurance services under the European Health Insurance Card with copayments.
By producing their health carrier attestation and the passport, foreign tourists do not pay for medical services if they come from the countries which have signed the Health Care Convention with Croatia.
Health services are charged directly to tourists coming from a country which has not signed the Convention according to a standardized price list.
Services of private physicians and dentists are also at tourists’ disposal in which case a full price is charged for medical services.

Only call 194 when life is at risk and emergency services will come as soon as possible
In all other cases guests can get assistance:
- at the nearest tourist medical clinic (www.idz.hr)
- at the nearest Istrian Health Centre on working days (www.idz.hr)
- at the Pula General Hospital on weekends
- during the night, by calling 194
Remain in constant phone contact with the 194 service and the patient in case of need, as all information about the event is of great importance.
Whilst waiting for the arrival of emergency services for the patient, his/her escort should prepare:
- ID or passport
- European health insurance card, travel insurance policy, cash card or money for settling the cost of intervention

When you check in a hotel, hostel, campsite or an apartment, you will automatically be registered with the police, a matter required by law. If you are staying with friends please do it yourself. In a 24 hour period, check with your nearest police station and be sure to bring your passport. You will be kindly asked to complete some paperwork, a procedure necessary for your own safety, helping you overcome any inconvenience that may occur while you are on a holiday.

Since 1 April 2013, the Republic of Croatia has been applying the European Union’s Common Visa Policy. Pursuant to the Government’s Decision, the Republic of Croatia applies the Decision No 565/2014/EU according to which all third-country nationals who are holders of valid Schengen documents, as well as national visas and residence permits of Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Romania do not require an additional (Croatian) visa for Croatia. The travel document which a third-country national is using to enter Croatia must be valid for at least another three months after the planned departure from Croatia and issued within the previous 10 years (e.g. a third-country national staying in Croatia until 26 December 2016 has to hold a passport valid at least until 27 March 2017).
This does not apply to EU/EEA citizens who can enter Croatia with a passport or an identity card, both valid for the duration of stay and exit from Croatia.
The Customs regulations of the Republic of Croatian are in line with the regulations of the European Union.
When entering Croatia, passengers and visitors are entitled to bring in personal baggage, including foods, drugs, weapons and other goods in accordance with that prescribed by the customs regulations.

The transport of pets across state borders may only take place upon presentation of a certificate of the animal’s good health issued by a veterinary surgeon. Cats and dogs must be fitted with an electronic identification system (microchip). Up to five pets may be imported at border crossings approved for the circulation of certain house pets, while the import of a greater number of animals must take place at a border crossing with a veterinary inspection.
The currency used in Istria/Croatia is Kuna (1 Kuna = 100 Lipa).

GMT plus one hour in winter and GMT plus two hours in summer.
Voltage on city power grids is 220 V / 50 Hz, so visitors from the U.S. will need to use a transformer and visitors from G.B. will have to use an adopter for European electricity grid to run their electrical appliances.
