These days the popular American website Shermanstravel.com praises Istria as one of the 10 emerging wine regions in the world.
- In the early 1990s the old Istrian tradition of winemaking experienced a renaissance which continues to evolve, say the Americans, pointing out the Benvenuti, Clai, Kabola and Franc Arman wineries.
Kabola's Malvasia, they say, is a very popular wine which goes well with Istrian specialties such as truffles or fish dishes.
In the most recent selection of 10 recommended destinations, the editors of Sherman's Travel highlight some less known wine regions located off the usual routes where readers can discover a new generation of wines, extraordinary tastes and landscapes, all this in a much less crowded surroundings.
Istria is presented as a heart-shaped peninsula with numerous hilltop towns and picturesque towns by the sea. Its white soil in the interior and red soil in the coastal areas, along with gently sloping terrain and plenty of sun are a real paradise for vineyards that cover more than 6.000 hectares of land.
