Investments in Croatian tourism in 2018
At the end of 2017, the Republic of Croatia’s Ministry of Tourism prepared a regular survey of tourism investments for 2018 covering all counties and tourism companies, with regard to data submitted to it by the end of November 2017.
According to the data collected, 940 million euro will be invested in Croatian tourism in 2018. In doing so, hotel companies will invest around 628 million euro in their tourism projects, whilst the public sector or the counties, cities and municipalities will invest over 311 million euro.
Investments in the private sector include investing in hotels, campsites, nautical and other types of accommodation facilities, contents and attractions, whilst investments in the public sector include investing in visitor centres, beaches, promenades, etc.
A significant part of these investments is planned in Istria. In 2018, the completion and inauguration of the Maistra's Hotel Park 5* in Rovinj is expected to be worth 539 million kuna. Apart from investing in raising the quality of its contents, Maistra is also focused on increasing the recognition and offer of the entire destination.
Valamar Riviera, a company based in Poreč, is planning to complete the Valamar Girandella Resort in Rabac where an inauguration of the Valamar Girandella Maro Suites 5* is planned with which it joins the prestigious Austrian Kinderhotels chain. The strategy of intensive investment in the premium camping segment will continue with intended investments in campsites in Istria and on the island of Krk, whilst there are also a number of other investment projects for guest content and energy efficiency enhancement.
In 2017, Plava Laguna began the construction of a completely new tourist village Park Resort in Poreč within which the Laguna Park Hotel is completely reconstructed and all the new facilities are getting a 4 star category: Villas Park, Apartments Park, Garden Suites Park and Hotel Park.
From the portfolio of the former Istraturist Umag company and now (from Jan 1st) Plava Laguna, Sol Umag Hotel 4* and CampingIN Stella Maris Umag 4* are being reconstructed in the Umag area.
According to the aforementioned survey, previous investments in Croatia amounted to 817 million euro for 2017, and 676 million euro for 2016. Investments for 2018 might even exceed one billion euro if announcements regarding the start of health tourism projects are brought to fruition.
