Tour of Croatia in 2018 rated as a 2.HC event
The Tour of Croatia's quality performance has been recognised by the International Cycling Union (UCI), which gave it special recognition at the annual assembly in the 2.HC category that was assigned to it for 2018. This means that the Croatian race, with two stages passing through Istria, can be attended by the majority of teams in the WTT - UCI World Tour Teams category.
The first two editions of the race were included in the 2.1 category, while HC marks the French term hors catégorie which means above category. And above this is only a category of elite races, a total of 38, including the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España.
Although world cycling stars such as Mark Cavendish and Vincenzo Nibali, winner of the 2017 edition, rode on Croatian roads in previous years, being elevated to a new category means that the number of famous names will be even higher at the next edition.
Tour of Croatia, one of the most important sporting events, will take place from the 17th until the 22nd April 2018. In addition to the competitive component, the race promotes natural beauties, cultural heritage and strengthens the economic potential of the cities and regions through which it passes.
