Croatia is a handball powerhouse with a long and proud tradition in the sport. In Croatia, handball is much more than a game - it is a passion and an integral part of the national identity. Our handball players, known as the "Kauboji," have achieved remarkable success on the international stage, including winning the gold medal at the World Championship in Portugal and two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Athens.

Croatian club handball also boasts significant achievements, particularly PPD Zagreb, which won the Champions League in 1992 and 1993, and was a finalist in 1995 and 1999. The women's club Podravka Vegeta clinched the Champions League title in 1996 and continues to dominate national competitions. Meanwhile, the handball club Nexe Našice consistently achieves notable results in both the European League and the SEHA League.

Numerous successes have placed Croatian clubs among the best in Europe, so it is no surprise that at the beginning of 2024, the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Istria Tourist Board became official destination partners of the most elite club handball competition on the Old Continent - the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. Organized under the auspices of the European Handball Federation (EHF), this prestigious partnership was established ahead of the 2024 season and spans two sports seasons.

The Machineseeker EHF Champions League stands as the premier competition in European club handball, showcasing the continent’s top handball teams.

Through the prestigious partnership between the Istria Tourist Board and this elite European handball league, Istrian tourism has gained special advantages and rights in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. This collaboration ensures significant visibility at all matches, along with a digital presence on the eurohandball.com portal and EHFTV, the European Handball Federation's OTT platform.

Sport and tourism are two sectors that perfectly complement each other, as evidenced by the numerous events and world-class sports competitions hosted by Istrian towns. Notably, Poreč and Umag are part of this prestigious partnership, serving as premier tourist destinations and the cradle of handball and various other sports events in Istria.
