Carnival in Pula
After welcoming the New Year we embark upon the time of crazy, the time of carnival, the time when you can be everything you want to be! Many masks are removed, many are put on! And it will be so all the way to mid-February.
With its rich program, Pula joins the craziest days of the year that begin on 17 January when the city keys are collected from the Communal Palace (city hall) and the carnival king Pust is put up on Veli Vrh. Then the carnival parade, along with the child mayor, also take over the “power” over the city in the coming period.
The above is followed by another interesting part of the program called “Carnival Search”, which will be held on 20 and 27 January from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the city centre.
The big Carnival Parade of masked groups will take place around the city centre on 3 February starting at 11:30 a.m. The parade starts from Karolina, followed by their presentation in front of the Arena and then at Portarata. At 3:00 p.m. there will be a big masquerade ball with the Funbox band in the Croatian Defenders’ House.
The next day, 4 February, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., the Valmade-Veli Vrh carnival group will parade through Valmade, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Veli Vrh.
The kids carnival for preschool and school children starts at 10 a.m. on 9 February in the Arena, thanks to the Naša Djeca organization.
The carnival madness ends on 13 February when the main culprit, Pust, will be sentenced for all the misfortunes that befell us and will be burned for it on Veli Vrh at 7 p.m. This will mark the end of the carnival season and the beginning of Lent.
