Accordion Orchestra in My City
The Art School of Poreč and the City of Poreč-Parenzo, in collaboration with the friendly music schools of Virovitica and Vinkovci, and with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education, the City of Poreč-Parenzo, and the Tourist Board of the City of Poreč-Parenzo, are once again organizing the traditional project "VIVIPO" (Vinkovci – Virovitica – Poreč) this year. VIVIPO will be held in Poreč-Parenzo from May 25 to 30, 2024, with full-day workshops and gatherings through music, culminating in two concerts in Freedom Square on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
The concert "Accordion Orchestra in My City" – project "ZUS" and "VIVIPO" will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 5:00 PM in Freedom Square, Poreč-Parenzo, featuring wind orchestras from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Croatia, united in the "ZUS" project. The conductors are Anna Brezaniova, Miroslav Knob, and Antonio Baranašić.
On the same day, Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 7:00 PM, the accordion orchestras united in the VIVIPO project will also perform for the audience in Poreč’s Freedom Square. The VIVIPO Orchestra consists of young accordionists from primary and secondary music schools in Virovitica, Vinkovci, and Poreč, namely: the Art School of Poreč, the Josip Runjanin Music School in Vinkovci, the Elly Bašić Music School in Zagreb, and the Jan Vlašimsky Music School in Virovitica. The conductors are Beatrica Šušak, Dario Glavaš, and Anamarija Lovrečić. The honor of opening this unique concert is given to the hosts, the multiple award-winning accordion orchestra of the Art School of Poreč, composed of young accordionists aged 10 to 14, who recently won the 47th International Accordion Competition in Pula.
The "ZUS" and "VIVIPO" projects reflect the collaboration between students and teachers from different music schools, who, through organized workshops and joint learning and music-making, promote interaction and work on collective expression through joint compositions. These activities unite musicians in a group for the joint performance of music, allowing them to share musical moments and create a special bond through music. Besides the collaboration of music schools from these cities, the project's goal is also to popularize the accordion as a classical instrument and present it at the concert. The program will include well-known (classical) works and popular pieces by A. Piazzolla, Queen, Michael Jackson, Vangelis, E. Derbenko, Tina Turner, Mike Chapman & Holly Knight, Camila Cabello, F.J. Perren/D. Fekaris, Cindy Lauper/Rob Hyman, Alan Merrill... Admission is free.
Around 150 students from primary and secondary schools and their teachers will participate in the combined orchestras from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Croatia. Guests are coming from the Foundation Art School Vyškov in the Czech Republic, led by director Aleš Musil, and the Foundation Art School Ferko Španiho from the Slovak city of Žilina.
It is important to emphasize that the students have been preparing for this event for a long time through joint music-making in the orchestra, and their participation in this international project helps them develop collaboration and teamwork skills. Being part of this international project will certainly provide students with a positive and motivating experience, important for their further musical journey.
We invite you to join us and enjoy top-quality music with us in Poreč’s Freedom Square on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Everyone is welcome!
