Exhibitions in the Museum of the City of Rovinj-Rovigno

These are exhibitions in adapted conditions, since research works related to the reconstruction of the building are still being carried out in the palace.
Part of the findings found during protective archaeological research carried out in 2021 and 2022 are displayed in an exhibition called the Museum at the foundations of the city, and through them the urban development of Rovinj from the late antique settlement to the connection of the island with the mainland and the time of the construction of the Califfi Palace is followed. At the exhibition, visitors will be able to see part of the city ramparts located in the foundations of the building and get an insight into how this, so far unexplored, part of the city once looked.
Archaeological research was carried out by the Croatian Restoration Institute, Department of Terrestrial Archeology from Juršići, which is also the co-organizer of this exhibition, and the author of the texts is the research leader Josip Višnjić.

On the first floor of the Museum, the exhibition Case Study: Rovinj! Museum material as a museum's raison d'être, which shows a segment of museum work that often remains out of the public eye. The exhibition visualizes all the ways in which the Rovinj museum collected art materials in its seventy years of existence, which manifestations, events, and personalities influenced the formation of the collections in the form in which we inherit them today.
One of the basic ways of collecting material is purchases and donations, and in 2023 the Museum bought several key works by Aleksandar Garbin, who recently left us, so part of the exhibition is dedicated to him, a distinctive artist from Rovinj, a visionary who often lived outside of space and time. to which he belonged.
Among the selected works, you can also see those that have not had the opportunity to be exhibited so far, and in this way the rich art collection of the museum is further valorized. This exhibition is the result of research into ways of collecting museum materials, with an emphasis on systematic and consistent management of museum documentation.

The author and curator of the exhibition is Elizabeta Rogović.

The visual identity of the exhibition is signed by Studio Tumpić/Prenc.
