pazin speleoBrijuni National park with its 14 islands is considered to be one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the Mediterranean. With the fallow deer, musk ox, zebras, camels and other animals, you can enjoy the archaeological sites and indigenous plants.

In the extreme south of Istria there is the peninsula Kamenjak, a protected area where you can walk the dinosaurs trail and see their footprints on the rocks. There is a rich flora and fauna among which there are numerous populations of orchids to be found in this area.

The first ornithological park in Istria – Palud cove is situated southwest of Rovinj, where as many as 219 species of birds have been recorded. A flooded canyon valley in the rubble called Lim Fjord, also known as Lim bay with a mussel farm is found north of Rovinj.

Istria also offers rich underground world of caves and pits. Several of them it's possible to visit without speleological knowledge and equipment while for the most of them it’s necessary to have more experience and specialized equipment.

In the vicinity of the largest medieval castle in Istria, there is the Pazin Cave which has not left indifferent neither Dante, nor Jules Verne, or many others who have visited it. In the heart of Istria, near Žminj, you can enjoy the beauty of the Cave Feštinsko kraljevstvo.

If you would like to visit the northwest of Istria, there is the Mramornica cave situated near Brtonigla-Verteneglio. It is one of the largest caves in Istria where you can see stalagmites which height is 13 meters.

One of the most beautiful panoramas in this part of Europe is visible from the top of the Učka Nature Park. On the western slopes of Učka, there is an impressive canyon called Vela Draga.

The Motovun forest stretches along the Mirna River valley. It is best known as the habitat of truffles, as well as of the most valuable of all truffles - the white truffle.
