Istria is the world's best olive growing region in 2024

Once again, for the eighth year, Istria has been recognized as the world’s premier olive-growing region in the prestigious Flos Olei guide, known as the “bible of extra virgin olive oils.” In its 15th edition, the guide spotlights 71 Croatian olive oils, of which an impressive 69 hail from Istria—13 more than last year’s edition. This distinction is significant given the global scope of the guide, which features oils from 56 countries across five continents. Puglia, Italy, follows closely with 55 entries, while Tuscany ranks third with 51.

Istrian olive growers have secured a prestigious spot among the world's top 500, representing an impressive 13% share. Notably, many producers achieved even higher rankings this year, underscoring their commitment to enhancing quality through the latest scientific and technological advancements in olive cultivation.

Flos Olei, regarded as an authoritative atlas of the global olive industry, is authored by renowned journalist and wine critic Marco Oreggia, with contributions from Laura Marinelli, an expert in wine and gastronomy. This internationally acclaimed guide is available in three bilingual editions: Italian-English, Italian-Chinese, and Italian-Spanish, making it accessible to a global audience.

Flos Olei 2024: Hall of Fame
Flos Olei distinguishes two elite categories, with the highest honour being the “Hall of Fame” – a prestigious list celebrating producers who have achieved unparalleled excellence, earning the maximum score of 100/100. In 2024, nine producers claimed this top accolade: three from Spain, five from Italy, and, for the first time in history, one from Croatia. The Croatian winner is Mate Oil from Savudrija, by Aleksandra Vekić, whose exceptional olive oil earned a perfect 100/100!
