Decanter World Wine Awards 2021

Every great wine enthusiast stops and listens carefully when it comes to the prestigious Decanter Award.

Founded in London in 1975, the Decanter magazine has been carrying out a large wine evaluation for the last 15 years, which is increasingly becoming an important reference for winemakers and caterers, and especially for wine lovers and connoisseurs. When the evaluation began in 2004, only about five thousand samples arrived at the competition, but the number has been increasing every year. Today we are talking about the largest and most influential wine evaluation, and this year there were as many as 18,094 samples from 56 countries in the competition.

More than a hundred prominent professional judges take part in the evaluation, including a large number of those with the title of Master of Wine (MW) who judge the competition by means of a blind tasting. Since they have no information about the producer or brand, their task is to describe the wines tasted, after which they compare notes with each other and try to reach a consensus on the medals, which must be agreed by everyone involved. Should this not happen, the medal decision is made by the president of the Decanter World Wine Award.

Every year, Istria achieves an increasing level of quality in its wine production, and the success of its production at the Decanter awards only confirms that it can compete with the world's top wine regions. This is just another of our small region’s incredible accomplishments which, thanks to these results, is progressively becoming recognisable on the international wine scene.
