In honour of wine: events and customs

Teran and Truffle Festival - TeTa

When autumnal tones take over Istria, its landscapes shimmer in hundreds of shades of yellow, orange, and red. From the top of a hill, this autumnal vibrancy is dignifiedly observed by Motovun, a medieval town overlooking the Motovun Forest, the Mirna River, and its stunning valley.

In it, the TeTa - an exhibition and tasting of Teran and truffles - takes place in October. Teran is an old Istrian variety that dominated the areas of the Istrian Peninsula about a hundred years ago and was first mentioned more than 600 years ago.

This native Istrian wine, due to its strong and robust flavour, pairs best with prosciutto, cheese, and dishes based on meat and game, and its ruby red colour seems to merge with the autumn colours of Istria.

Along with Teran, the equally star of the festival is the underground Istrian treasure, the truffle, without which today's gourmet cuisine would be unimaginable.
