Golden Pen Awards Presented to Foreign Journalists in Istria

Golden Pen Award for the Best Media Coverage of Croatia

- The prestigious Zlatna Penkala - Golden Pen Award ceremony, hosted by the Croatian National Tourist Board to recognize outstanding international media coverage of Croatia, took place in Istria, gathering 28 media representatives from 15 countries across the globe -

Set against the stunning backdrop of Kozlović Winery in Istria, the 21st edition of the Golden Pen Award ceremony took place on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Traditionally hosted by the Croatian National Tourist Board, this year’s event was organized in collaboration with the Istria Tourist Board and the Novigrad-Cittanova Tourist Board.

Presented by the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Golden Pen Awards honour international editors, journalists, travel bloggers, and influencers for exceptional media coverage of Croatia as a travel destination over the past year. This year’s ceremony brought together 28 distinguished media representatives from 15 countries around the world.

All attending journalists were presented with special recognition awards, while the Grand Prix - the highest accolade of the Golden Pen - was awarded across six categories.

The Grand Prix for Best Print Media Feature was presented to Canadian journalist Vivian Vassos for her captivating article that invites Canadians on an unforgettable journey along the breath-taking Adriatic coast.

The Grand Prix for Best Online Media Feature went to Andrew Eames from the United Kingdom, whose article on the stunning sandy beaches of Croatia’s coastline captivated an impressive 10 million readers in The Times. In his piece, Eames emphasized the allure of unspoiled nature, crystal-clear waters, and the inviting atmosphere, offering his audience a vivid and memorable portrait of Croatia's coastline.

The Grand Prix for Best Radio Report was awarded to French journalist Christophe Jicquel for his captivating radio program. "Just 2 Hours from Paris: Croatia!" - the second episode of the show "Le monde à découvrir!" sparked the curiosity of French listeners, inviting them to explore Croatia’s breath-taking landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture.

The Grand Prix for Best Television Report was awarded to Polish journalists Piotr Maślak and Piotr Bartosz Gierzyński, along with cameraman Jakub Czyżewski, for their program "Tańcząca ze światem – Chorwacja" (Dancing with the World – Croatia). The team delved into Croatia’s most captivating destinations, with a special focus on its exceptional gastronomy and stunning natural beauty.

The Grand Prix for Best Travel Blog was awarded to Adriana Halousková and Matěj Halouska from the Czech Republic for their captivating article, "12 Best Places to Go in Croatia You Will Never Forget," in which they expertly highlight the most alluring attractions across Croatian cities and destinations.

The Grand Prix for Best Social Media Post went to Hungarian influencer Luna Joanna Michelle for her dynamic storytelling about the joys of sailing in Croatia. Through her vibrant Instagram and TikTok content, she beautifully captured the magic of navigating Croatia’s seas, bringing the experience to life for her followers.

As part of the Golden Pen program, the Croatian National Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Istria Tourist Board and the Novigrad-Cittanova Tourist Board, hosted a memorable three-day study trip for its distinguished guests. Throughout the journey, international journalists, bloggers, and influencers had the opportunity to explore the charming town of Grožnjan, discover the beauty of Novigrad, tour the renowned Cattunar Winery, indulge in a tasting of exquisite Istrian olive oil, and immerse themselves in the rich truffle heritage of central Istria with the family-owned Karlić Tartufi. The experience culminated in a delightful gala dinner at the Kozlović Winery, creating unforgettable memories for all involved.
