St. Martin’s Day Celebration
According to tradition, young wine that has just finished its alcoholic fermentation phase and turned from must into wine is baptised on the feast of St. Martin. On that happy day, the whole of Istria lives in the spirit of its wines - especially white Malvasia and red Teran, whilst towns and villages mark this symbolic moment in wine culture with various celebrations.
Young wine, which has many admirers due to its sweetness and special taste is poured into glasses, with friends and guests hanging out in wine cellars and taverns, telling stories about the origin of these precious drops that hide a thousand Istrian secrets.
