Istrian frescoes: The Church of St. Barnabas, Vižinada
The Church of St. Barnabas is originally a Romanesque edifice. Its wall interior is painted by frescoes depicting the life of Christ.
The Church of St. Barnabas is originally a Romanesque edifice from the 12th or the 13th cc. It was expanded in Baroque, in the 17th or the 18th cc. The medieval church was much lower than the current one and had two apses, which is the characteristic of other churches from that period in Istria.
In the late 14th or the early 15th cc., interior walls of St. Barnabus were painted by frescoes depicting the life of Christ; from his birth to the resurrection. The western wall shows the scene of the Last Judgement with images of heaven and hell, each on one side of the door.
