Završje is the second best European film location
On Sunday, 24th February, 2020 at the Berlinale, after almost three months of competition the winner of the Best European Film Location Award was announced. The contest is being organized for the third year in a row by the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) in cooperation with Cineuropa.
Završje, a little picturesque town in Istria, which was one of the filming locations in 2017 for the film „ Robin Hood“, was among ten finalists. The application was made by the Istria Film Commission that operates within ICA (Istrian cultural agency), in charge of promoting Istria as a film destination. Ten European locations that promote the beauty and diversity of Europe were applied by the film commissions, members of the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN). Until the very end, a tight fight was going on between Završje (CRO) and El Hierro (ES), applied by the Canary Island Film Commission, which at last won the first place.
The „silver“ second place represents a big achievement for Završje, Istria and Croatia. All the votes and support from all over the world put Završje in the European film location map and among the most desired locations for filming. Impressive locations, as well as state incentives, influenced the decisions of the big film productions to come to Istria.
We believe that this achievement will make Istria, and Croatia, even more attractive as a film destination.
